FAQs

Quick answers about thin brick, Brickwebb, and Panel+. If you don’t see your question here, talk to us.

Ordering & Coverage

How do I measure and figure out how much to order?

Measure height × width for each wall to get square feet, add them up, then subtract doors and windows. Add 5–10% extra for cuts and waste. Use our Coverage Calculator to check your numbers.

What’s the difference between flats and corners?

Flats cover square feet on the wall. Corners cover linear feet on outside edges. Check each product page for coverage per box.

How wide are the grout joints?

Plan for about 3/8 inch joints. Keep spacing consistent for a clean look.

Do I need extra material for cuts?

Yes. Order 5–10% extra. Order a little more if your project has many cuts, angles, or niche details.

Surfaces & Locations

What surfaces can I install on?

Clean, sound drywall (interior), cement backer board, concrete or masonry, and Panel+ used as the base. Surfaces must be clean, dry, solid, and fairly flat.

Can I install in a kitchen or bath?

Yes. In splash or wet areas, prep well and follow adhesive instructions. Keep water off fresh work while it cures. Use cleaners made for masonry.

Can I install near a fireplace or range?

Yes, around surrounds and backsplashes. Keep safe clearances, follow local codes and appliance guidelines, and use materials rated for the area.

Can Brickwebb be used outdoors?

Yes, on properly prepared exterior surfaces. Protect from rain and freezing during cure. Follow temperature ranges on adhesive and grout labels.

Adhesives, Tools & Grout

What adhesive should I use?

Use an approved polymer-modified thin-set or Old Mill Adhesive matched to your surface and location (interior/exterior, wet/dry). Follow the label for open and cure times.

What trowel size should I use?

Brickwebb commonly uses a 3/8 in. × 1/4 in. notched trowel. Panel+ (adhesive-applied) typically uses a 1/2 in. notch. Follow the product guide for your substrate.

Which grout should I use?

Two easy options: (1) Type S mortar with a grout bag and jointer for a classic look; (2) sanded tile grout with a float for color control (use grout release for easier cleanup). Test a small area first.

How long should I wait before grouting?

Wait until the adhesive cures fully and bricks don’t move—typically at least 24 hours or as stated on the label.

Cutting, Corners & Layout

What’s the best way to cut thin brick?

Use an angle grinder with a masonry blade or a wet saw. Cut face-down to reduce chipping. Wear eye, hearing, and dust protection.

How do I handle outside corners?

Order corner pieces (sold by linear feet) and install corners first. This keeps courses aligned as you run the field.

How do I keep rows straight?

Snap a level line for the first course and mark light guide lines on tall walls. Check level every few rows and adjust while adhesive is fresh.

Cleaning, Sealing & Maintenance

Do I need to seal thin brick?

Sealing is optional. If you seal, use a breathable masonry sealer and test a small area first. Follow label directions for recoat and cure times.

How do I clean brick after grouting?

Let grout firm up, brush crumbs away, then wipe faces with a damp sponge. After curing, remove light haze with clean water. For heavy residue, use a brick-safe cleaner and rinse well.

What is the white powder on the surface?

That’s likely efflorescence—salts carried to the surface by moisture. Fix the moisture source first. Dry brush or wash with water. For stubborn spots, use a brick-safe cleaner and rinse thoroughly.

Panel+ Specific

Can I glue Panel+ directly to my wall?

Yes—use the adhesive-applied method over the correct air & water barrier following the system guide. You can also mechanically fasten to framing using approved screws and washers.

Do I remove the bottom alignment track on the first course?

Yes. Remove the lower track on the first course so a full row of thin brick can sit at the base.
