Brickwebb® Thin Brick Questions
What is Brickwebb® Thin Brick?
Brickwebb® is Old Mill Brick’s patented thin brick installation system. Each sheet uses real kiln-fired clay thin brick mounted on a durable mesh backing for fast, consistent placement. Brickwebb installs much like tile but gives you the look and feel of real brick.
Is Brickwebb made from real brick?
Yes. Brickwebb is made from genuine kiln-fired clay brick. It is not faux brick, resin, concrete, or cast brick.
What makes Brickwebb easier to install?
Brickwebb lets you install up to 12 thin bricks at a time. The mesh backing keeps the brick spacing and layout consistent, which helps reduce installation time and makes thin brick more approachable for professionals and DIYers.
Can Brickwebb be used indoors and outdoors?
Yes. Brickwebb is designed for interior and exterior applications when installed over an approved substrate with the correct adhesive.
- Interior accent walls
- Fireplaces and stove surrounds
- Kitchen backsplashes
- Floors over proper substrates
- Columns and entryways
- Exterior facades above grade
- BBQ islands and outdoor kitchens
Is Brickwebb combustible?
No. Brickwebb uses real kiln-fired clay brick and is non-combustible. Always follow appliance clearance requirements, local code, and the fireplace or stove manufacturer’s installation requirements.
Can Brickwebb be installed inside a firebox?
No. Brickwebb is not recommended inside fireboxes. It can be used around many fireplaces and stove surrounds when clearances, substrates, and local code requirements are followed.
Brickwebb® Installation Questions
How do I install Brickwebb?
- Apply modified thin-set or an approved adhesive with a 3/8-inch notch trowel.
- Install outside corner sheets first when your project includes corners.
- Install flat sheets and press each brick firmly into the adhesive.
- Let the adhesive cure for about 24 hours.
- Grout with Type S mortar or sanded tile grout.
What adhesive should I use with Brickwebb?
Recommended options include modified thin-set mortar labeled for quarry or stone, Old Mill Adhesive Mix, MasonGrip® for instant-grab applications, and Brick Bond® for approved interior applications only. Always follow the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions and limitations.
Can I use Type S mortar as the adhesive?
No. Type S mortar can be used for grouting Brickwebb, but it should not be used as the adhesive. Use modified thin-set or another approved adhesive for bonding the brick to the substrate.
Can Brickwebb be installed over drywall?
Yes, Brickwebb can be installed over drywall for many interior wall applications when the wall is clean, sound, and properly prepared. For wet areas, floors, exterior projects, or special conditions, use the proper substrate and adhesive system.
Can Brickwebb be installed over Zip System sheathing?
No. Brickwebb will not bond directly to Zip System sheathing. Use the Panel+® Wall System with loose thin brick, or install cement backer board over Zip System sheathing before installing Brickwebb.
Can I use a peel-and-stick tile mat with Brickwebb?
No. Peel-and-stick tile mats are not recommended for Brickwebb. Thin brick needs an approved adhesive that can support the material and application conditions.

Brickwebb® Coverage, Cutting, and Sizing
How much area does Brickwebb cover?
Colonial Collection: Flat sheet size is 28 in x 10.5 in. Coverage is 1.7 sq ft per sheet. Each box includes 5 sheets for 8.7 sq ft per box.
Modern and Tierra Collections: Each box covers 7 sq ft.
How much do Brickwebb corners cover?
Brickwebb corner sheets cover 1.76 lineal ft per sheet. Each box includes 3 sheets for a total of 5.3 lineal ft.
How do I cut Brickwebb?
Use a wet tile saw or a grinder with a masonry blade to cut the brick. Use a utility knife or heavy-duty scissors to cut the mesh.
Can I remove a brick from the mesh sheet?
Yes. Individual thin bricks can be removed from the mesh for cutting, adjustments, or custom placement.
Grouting, Cleaning, and Sealing
What grout should I use with Brickwebb?
You can use Type S mortar or sanded tile grout. Sanded grout can be a good choice when you want a specific grout color or a smoother joint finish.
How do I clean Brickwebb after installation?
Once grout or mortar has cured, clean the brick according to the cleaner manufacturer’s instructions. For routine cleaning, sweep or vacuum first, then use warm water and a mild detergent. Always test cleaners in a small area before applying them to the full project.
Should I seal Brickwebb?
Sealing is optional. A breathable penetrating sealer can make brick and grout easier to clean, especially on backsplashes and floors. Sealers may darken the brick, so test first.
Can I paint Brickwebb?
Yes. Brickwebb can be painted after proper surface preparation. Use a suitable primer and paint for masonry surfaces.

Floors, Heat, and Special Conditions
Can Brickwebb be installed on floors?
Yes. Brickwebb can be installed on floors over properly prepared substrates such as concrete or cement backer board. Use the correct adhesive for the surface and application.
Can Brickwebb be installed over radiant floor heat?
Yes. Brickwebb can be installed over electric or hydronic radiant floor heating systems. Follow the heating system manufacturer’s instructions.
Does the floor need to be perfectly level?
No, but the floor should be properly prepared. Thin brick can handle some variation, but large out-of-plane areas should be patched so the finished surface looks and performs correctly.
